Motoring Law

Road Traffic OffencesBeing charged with a road traffic offence can be a stressful experience. For many people, losing their driving licence can have a serious impact on their life and career. Whilst we do not condone those who break the Motoring law, we do believe those breaking it deserve access to the best possible legal advice to ensure a fair hearing.

Motoring law & modern motorists

Motorists on today’s roads have to pay much greater attention than they did just 15 years ago. New technology has brought a proliferation of speed cameras aimed at keeping our speed down while speed limits can be different on the same section of the road. Roads have become more crowded which can make more difficult to drive more carefully.

Road traffic offences

Some road traffic offences can simply be frustrating, and people may just need legal advice in challenging parking fines and tickets in a system which can often be complicated and unclear. Sometimes road traffic offences can have life changing consequences.

Our Road Traffic solicitors recognise that Motoring law is not always straightforward, and getting the right legal advice at an early stage can make all the difference.

Fisher Meredith’s Motoring Law solicitors understand the technical complexities involved and can provide legal advice and representation at every stage, from the police station through to trial and appeal. Our Motoring lawyers have experience of the full range of road traffic offences, including:

  • Alcohol and drug related offences including driving under the influence/drink driving;
  • Dangerous or careless driving;
  • Driving without insurance;
  • Driving without the appropriate licence;
  • Failing to comply with a road sign;
  • Failure to inform of a driver;
  • Failing to provide a specimen for analysis;
  • Failing to stop at an accident;
  • Parking offences;
  • Speeding

Important things to consider

When charged with a road traffic offence it is important you seek early legal advice from a Motoring Law solicitor regarding the risk you face of being disqualified from driving or receiving points on your driving licence.

If you have been charged with a motoring offence, you should receive a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) within 14 days. You should seek legal advice and complete and return this document as soon as possible, showing whether you intend pleading guilty or not guilty.

There are many myths circulating about motoring offences, and believing them could cause you more problems. Motoring law does change regularly, so information you may already know may be wrong or out-of-date.
